On behalf of the Puyallup Watershed Initiative’s Communities of Interest, Staff Team, and Community Board, we wish to announce that Executive Director Jennifer Chang will be transitioning away from her role with the Initiative in the coming months.
The Puyallup Watershed Initiative warmly thanks Jennifer for nearly eight years of service, during which she accompanied the Initiative in its evolution from a project of The Russell Family Foundation to becoming an independent nonprofit organization. Jennifer first connected with the Initiative as a community member at the very start of the Initiative’s founding. She would join the team and serve in various roles, first as co-coordinator of the Environmental Education Community of Interest, then as Community Relations Manager, before taking on the role of the Initiative’s first Executive Director.
Jennifer’s tireless work over the years has helped the Initiative plant key organizational cornerstones from which we can move forward in our journey as a team, an organization, and a community. Under Jennifer’s leadership, the Initiative established foundational financial, resource development, and staffing structures to support the organization in its future. She helped increase awareness of the Initiative across the region and expanded our networks; worked to ensure resources were in place to advance the collective efforts of the Communities of Interest; and guided the implementation and continued development of the Initiative’s Community Board.
Anaid Yerena, the Initiative’s Community Board Chair, has worked closely with Jennifer for the last two years. Anaid offered her thoughts on Jennifer’s impact on the community: “Jennifer led with a deep pride and caring for the people and places across the Puyallup Watershed. She showed a commitment to the power of collaboration and the opportunities it can foster to improve social and environmental conditions across the Watershed.”
The Initiative’s Community Board has formed a transitional work group and is exploring options for interim support. The Initiative’s priorities over the coming months will focus on continuing to strengthen the organization’s operations, supporting the Communities of Interest, and recruiting the appropriate leader for the next phase of the Initiative’s journey.
We will keep you informed of our progress as the process unfolds. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please contact the Community Board’s officers at ExecutiveWorkGroup@pwi.org.
