It is important to the members of the JHFS COI to develop spaces for community members to make significant contributions with modest commitments of personal time.
The JHFS COI developed the Community Council to empower community members to develop skills, collaborate with organizations and exercise decision-making power. The Community Council will have autonomy to focus on priorities they agree upon as a group. The hope is that they will gain influence and decision-making power over the JHFS COI strategies and project implementation.
Currently, there are 12 members of the JHFS COI Community Council from various backgrounds, professions and unrepresented or under-represented communities within the watershed. The Community Council meets six times a year. The group has room for up to 20 participants.
